CASE CX210E-S: Delivering Heavy-Duty Performance at Cware Trefigin Quarry
When the time came to upgrade its fleet, Cware Trefigin Quarry near Cardigan, Pembrokeshire, had no hesitation in choosing the new CASE CX210E-S excavator. Having relied on CASE construction machinery for many years, the decision was straightforward, ensuring they maintained the efficiency, reliability, and performance required to keep up with the demands of their busy quarrying operations.

A Family Legacy of Quarrying Excellence

Cware Trefigin Quarry was established by Granville and Sheila John and has grown into a thriving business, now managed by their sons Rhodri, Peredur, and Llyr. The quarry supplies high-quality sand and washed stone in multiple grades to construction companies and builders' merchants across South West Wales. With demand consistently high, the reliability and durability of machinery are critical to keeping operations running smoothly.

The John family’s association with CASE equipment stretches back to the 1950s, when Granville’s father first used CASE machinery as an agricultural contractor. Over the decades, CASE has remained central to the business, providing excavators, wheel loaders, and mini diggers to support the quarry’s evolving needs. The latest addition to their fleet of over 10 machines is the 20-tonne CX210E-S excavator, now working at the quarry face, alongside models such as the CX210D excavator, CX31B mini digger, and 121E compact wheel loader.

According to Rhodri John, the decision to continue with CASE was an easy one. “My father and grandfather have been using CASE machinery for decades, and we continue to do so because of the quality and reliability of the brand. The new CX210E-S arrived in July, replacing some older excavators that had clocked up high hours, and we’re very pleased with its performance.”

Built for Power, Performance, and Durability

Designed for demanding excavation work, the CASE CX210E-S integrates advanced Japanese technology with a heavy-duty build, making it well-suited to the challenges of a quarrying environment. Hayden Bale, Product Specialist at CASE Construction Equipment, explained that while the CX210E-S is manufactured in CASE’s Indian facility, it continues to incorporate premium Japanese components. To enhance durability, the undercarriage has been reinforced, and both the boom base and dipper arm have been heavily plated to withstand the harsh conditions of quarry operations.

The machine also benefits from an upgraded six-cylinder FPT NEF6 Stage V diesel engine, replacing the previous four-cylinder Isuzu engine. This new engine delivers the same horsepower but at lower RPM, providing improved fuel efficiency and greater digging power. Although described as the ‘Essential’ version of the standard CX210E, the CX210E-S retains the high performance, comfort, and reliability of its counterpart. It comes factory-fitted with a quick coupler circuit and high-flow auxiliary hydraulics, ensuring versatility across a range of applications. Due to its heavy-duty undercarriage and reinforced structure, the CX210E-S weighs around 500kg more than the standard CX210E, further enhancing its robustness and durability in challenging working conditions.

The machine also features multiple work modes tailored for different applications. The Super Power (SP) mode delivers maximum productivity, operating at full throttle, while the Power (P) mode balances power and efficiency, replacing the previous H and A modes. The Lifting (L) mode is optimised for object handling with permanent power boost activated. There is also an Eco mode, which is becoming increasingly popular as it reduces fuel consumption while maintaining high productivity by selectively controlling engine and pump performance depending on the task.

A Focus on Operator Comfort and Safety

With quarrying operations requiring long hours in the cab, CASE has prioritised operator comfort, safety, and efficiency in the design of the CX210E-S. The cab is noticeably spacious and quieter, with increased foot space and wider access. Ergonomically designed pneumatic seating provides superior support, and the suspended joystick consoles reduce operator fatigue over long shifts. The industry-leading 10-inch touchscreen display, which integrates air conditioning controls and five configurable buttons, ensures that operators have everything they need at their fingertips.

Enhanced visibility is another key feature, with the CX210E-S equipped with a LED light package, as well as rear- and right-hand cameras to improve safety on busy jobsites. A factory-fitted travel alarm further enhances site awareness, and an auto lever lock safety feature prevents unintended machine movements when the gate lock is unintentionally released.

CASE has also considered operator convenience by incorporating ample storage options, including a lunch box tray, cool box, smartphone tray, and large drink holders, ensuring everything has its place inside the cab.

A Reliable Investment for Quarrying & Construction

With its powerful performance, fuel efficiency, and operator-focused design, the CASE CX210E-S is proving to be a valuable addition at Cware Trefigin Quarry. It continues the long tradition of CASE machinery playing a vital role in the quarry’s success, ensuring productivity remains high while minimising downtime.

For businesses looking for a cost-effective and high-performance excavator, the CX210E-S offers a reliable and robust solution. With its reinforced structure, enhanced hydraulics, and advanced engine technology, it stands out as a smart investment for quarrying, construction, and earthmoving applications.
